Caitlin Clark to Sit Out Entire WNBA Season Due to Groin Injury
Caitlin Clark will not return to the court this WNBA season after suffering a groin injury in mid-July.
“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season,” the 23-year-old point guard expressed in an Instagram post on September 4, accompanied by black-and-white images featuring her teammates. “I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there; disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling.”
In her heartfelt message, Clark acknowledged the support she received during this challenging time. “I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty. This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good. The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective. I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year.”
“Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs,” she concluded, signaling her unwavering support for her team.
Clark last played on July 15, when she sustained a right groin injury during the closing moments of a game against the Connecticut Sun, as reported by ESPN.
On July 17, a joint announcement from the Fever and WNBA social media accounts confirmed that Clark would miss both the WNBA All-Star Game and the 3-Point Contest.
“I’m so excited for Indy to host WNBA All-Star this weekend,” she stated. “I want to thank the Indianapolis Host Committee and all of the people that have put endless work in over the past year to put this event together. I know this will be the best All-Star yet.”

She added, “I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can’t participate in the 3-Point contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I’m looking forward to helping Sandy [Brondello] coach our team to a win.”
Following her announcement, several teammates took to Instagram to express their support. Lexie Hull commented, “2026 going to be the best season yet.”
Aliyah Boston chimed in with, “Miss you big dawgggggggg❤️❤️ you’ll be back.”
Kate Martin from Golden State Valkyries added, “Love you cc, I’m proud of you.”
