Dallas Cowboys Secure Jake Ferguson with $52 Million Extension
The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a four-year contract extension for tight end Jake Ferguson, valued at $52 million, announced on Sunday.
This agreement includes a signing bonus of $12 million. Ferguson, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 draft, is now entering the last year of his rookie contract.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed his enthusiasm for Ferguson's new deal, stating, "Just really, really excited for him. Last year, obviously, he didn't feel he had the best year, but I think it always shows you we're always evaluating everything." He emphasized Ferguson's contributions, noting his play temperament and passion for the game. "He loves football. He's got that throwback type mentality," Schottenheimer added.
Last season, Ferguson recorded 59 receptions for 494 yards but did not find the end zone. In contrast, his previous season saw him achieve career highs with 71 catches, 761 yards, and five touchdowns.
Despite facing knee and concussion issues last year, Ferguson managed to start 14 games. Schottenheimer acknowledged the challenges Ferguson encountered, saying, "Jake's last year wasn't to his standard or to our standard. There's reasons for that. He got dinged up a little bit." He also mentioned that there were opportunities to utilize Ferguson more effectively in the offense.
Looking ahead, Schottenheimer expects Ferguson to return to his form from two seasons ago, describing him as a "big-play guy" and a force in the red zone capable of making contested catches.
This contract extension comes amid ongoing negotiations for a new deal for two-time All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons, who is also in the final year of his rookie contract. Parsons recently indicated that progress in those discussions has been minimal.
