Duncan Robinson Declares Free Agency, Leaving Door Open for Miami Return

Jun 29 2025

Duncan Robinson has officially entered unrestricted free agency, exercising his early termination option on Sunday, which would have concluded his contract with the Miami Heat.

This move does not preclude a return to Miami. As the franchise's all-time leader in 3-pointers made, Robinson had the option to let his contract run its course, securing $9.9 million from a nearly $20 million deal for the upcoming season.

Now, he stands at a crossroads: negotiate a new contract with the Heat, consider a sign-and-trade scenario, or explore opportunities with another team. The NBA's free agency period kicks off Monday evening, and Robinson's decision was due by Sunday.

At 31, Robinson's journey in the NBA is remarkable. He began at Division III Williams College, transitioned to Michigan, went undrafted, and ultimately found his footing with the Heat.

His impact was immediate; after playing 15 games as a rookie, he became a full-time starter for the next three seasons, consistently hitting over 232 3-pointers each year.

With 1,202 career 3-pointers, Robinson holds the record for the most in Heat history and achieved several significant milestones faster than any player in NBA history, including reaching 200 to 1,000 makes from beyond the arc.

Throughout his seven seasons in the league, Robinson has averaged 11.3 points per game while shooting an impressive 39.7% from three-point range.
