Father Kills 10-Year-Old Son with Autism, Family Dog, and Himself in Murder-Suicide; Missing 20-Year-Old Daughter Also Found Dead in Home
In a tragic incident in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a father shot his 10-year-old son, Logan, who had autism, and the family dog before turning the gun on himself. This heartbreaking event unfolded in a home that had already been marred by loss, as the father’s wife had taken her own life three years prior.
Rodney Shippy, 58, was discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after police executed a search warrant prompted by concerns from relatives about his missing daughter, Alyssa. The 20-year-old had not been seen since November, and her body was later found in the same residence.

The police confirmed the grim findings on Wednesday afternoon, revealing the deceased bodies of both Logan and the family pet. A medical examiner is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Alyssa's death.
“We are heartbroken to share that two beloved members of our family, Alyssa and Logan (brother and sister) passed away tragically and unexpectedly,” stated the family in a GoFundMe campaign aimed at covering funeral expenses. “Their loss has left our family in deep grief and unprepared for the financial burden that comes with arranging their funerals.”

This incident adds to a series of tragedies that have plagued the Shippy family. In August 2022, Lisa Shippy, Rodney’s wife, took her own life in the same home. Just five months later, Lisa’s mother, Diane Carpenter, was fatally stabbed by her husband, who subsequently ended his own life during a standoff with police.
Neighbors described the Shippy home as increasingly unsuitable for children. They noted that Logan was nonverbal and that Rodney had become more isolated following his wife’s death. “No running water, trash — looked like a completely different house,” said relative Patti Williams. “Rodney seemed to be holding it together for months after Lisa passed… then he started estranging himself from everyone.”

While the motive behind this tragic act remains unclear, public records indicate that Rodney was facing foreclosure on the home he purchased with his wife in 2021. In January, US Bank National Association filed a notice of foreclosure in Tulsa County District Court due to $135,000 in unpaid principal. Rodney had until June to respond to this notice.

As investigations continue, Williams expressed sorrow over the loss of the children. “Logan was so smart, eager to learn; everyone who met him loved him,” she remarked. “Alyssa was a bright light in this world. She had a beautiful life ahead of her, and I feel like their lives are stolen from them.”
