Florida Man Charged with Beating Girl with Dryer Cable, Forcing Kids to Kill Pet Pig
A Florida man is accused of some truly shocking acts of abuse, including forcing children to kill their family pet pig with a hammer. Glen Byrd, 35, is facing serious charges of child abuse and animal cruelty, according to court records. The Clay County Sheriff's Office began investigating Byrd after receiving a tip-off about his alleged mistreatment of a young girl.

The incident that sparked the investigation reportedly took place on November 23, when Byrd allegedly struck the girl with a detached dryer cable after she spilled chips on the kitchen counter. This incident was just the tip of the iceberg, as the girl also accused Byrd of pouring juice on her and her siblings and using a hammer to smash a glass table. When deputies reviewed photos of the girl's injuries, they described them as "egregious and not consistent with reasonable physical discipline," according to the affidavit.
As investigators dug deeper, they spoke with the children living in the home, including Byrd's 17-year-old stepson. This led to even more disturbing revelations. In October, Byrd reportedly decided he wanted to get rid of the family's teacup pig. He allegedly forced the children to strike the pig with a hammer until it stopped moving. After the horrific act, Byrd instructed his stepson to dispose of the pig's body in a nearby retention pond.
Much of the affidavit detailing these allegations is redacted to protect the identities of the child victims. However, it does mention that law enforcement interviewed Byrd's live-in girlfriend. Officers noted that she seemed to lack confidence in her responses and that many of her answers contradicted each other, raising further concerns about the household environment.
Byrd was arrested on February 15 and later posted a $100,000 bond on February 26. The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the allegations, highlighting the serious issues of child abuse and animal cruelty. As the investigation continues, the community is left shocked and saddened by the events that unfolded in their neighborhood.
