The Philadelphia Eagles are making headlines by re-signing a crucial player from their top-ranked defense. All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun has officially inked a three-year contract extension with the team, solidifying his place in the Eagles' lineup.
As reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, Baun's new deal is worth a staggering $51 million, with $34 million guaranteed. Additionally, he has the opportunity to earn up to $1.5 million more through various incentives and escalators.
At just 28 years old, Baun emerged as one of the premier linebackers in the league during the 2024 season, contributing significantly to the Eagles' triumph in Super Bowl LIX, where they clinched their second Lombardi Trophy with a commanding victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Under the guidance of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Baun had a breakout year that exceeded all expectations. He was a finalist for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, which ultimately went to Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Baun also earned First-Team All-Pro honors and secured a spot in the Pro Bowl, marking a remarkable turnaround in his career.
During the regular season, Baun showcased his skills by playing in 16 games, leading the Eagles with a total of 151 tackles. He also recorded 3.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and one interception. His defensive prowess was further highlighted by forcing five fumbles and recovering one.
Baun's impressive performance didn't stop there; he continued to shine in the playoffs. He once again led the team in total tackles with 33, notched two interceptions, and recovered two fumbles while forcing another. Notably, one of his interceptions came during the Super Bowl against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, helping the Eagles establish a commanding lead in the first half.

In a memorable moment captured by NFL Films after the Super Bowl, Baun confidently predicted that he would intercept Mahomes, showcasing his determination and skill.
Baun initially joined the Eagles last offseason on a one-year, $3.5 million contract, coinciding with the team's signings of running back Saquon Barkley and edge rusher Bryce Huff. Prior to his time in Philadelphia, Baun spent four seasons with the New Orleans Saints, primarily contributing on special teams. He had never played more than 27% of the defensive snaps until the 2024 season, but his transition to the Eagles allowed him to thrive in Fangio's system, where he played a career-high 95% of the defensive snaps. He secured a starting linebacker position alongside Nakobe Dean during training camp.
The Eagles have been active this offseason following their Super Bowl victory. Recently, they awarded Barkley a historic contract extension, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. Additionally, the team made some tough decisions by cutting cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry with a post-June 1 designation to create cap space.
With Baun's re-signing, the Eagles are clearly focused on maintaining their defensive strength as they look to build on their recent success.
