Colorado Contractor Sentenced to Prison for Unfinished Projects and stealing over $1 million

Nov 25 2024

A Colorado contractor, Kyle Arienta, found himself in hot water after pleading guilty to a string of crimes that involved stealing over a million dollars from families he left stranded with unfinished home renovation projects. The Denver District Court judge not only ordered the forty-one-year-old to repay $1.1 million to the affected families but also demanded an additional $1.7 million that Arienta had swindled from former clients and friends under false pretenses of investments in a non-existent construction project, as revealed by the Denver District Attorney's Office.

Aside from the financial deceit, Arienta also faced charges of theft and organized crime, to which he pleaded guilty. The grand jury had indicted Arienta on a total of 39 counts, with eleven of them linked to burglaries in various Denver neighborhoods such as Crestmoor, Hilltop, Wash Park, and Belcaro.

Following his guilty pleas on November 7, Arienta received a hefty sentence of 23 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections. This was not Arienta's first encounter with the law, as he had previously served time for a burglary conviction in Denver back in 2010, where he was sentenced to 10 years.

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, "Kyle Arienta was a prolific thief in our community, often preying on friends and acquaintances. In addition to burglarizing numerous homes in the Denver area, Arienta also violated the trust of his clients and friends, stealing significant amounts of their money. I am very pleased that, as a result of this plea agreement, he is being held accountable for those crimes."

Despite his current incarceration, Arienta's legal battles are far from over. He is set to appear before a judge in Arapahoe County to face sentencing for a separate burglary case. The hearing for this single felony count is scheduled for January 10.

Moreover, a civil case against Arienta in Denver court is slated to be heard by a jury in August 2025, adding another layer of legal complexity to his already dire situation.

It is essential to note that justice is being served in this case, thanks to the diligent work of prosecutors, investigators, victim advocates, and the Denver Police Department. The collaborative efforts of these entities have culminated in holding Arienta accountable for his actions, ensuring that those affected receive the justice they deserve.

As the saga unfolds, the repercussions of Arienta's crimes serve as a stark reminder of the importance of trust and integrity in professional dealings. The case sheds light on the consequences of breaching that trust and the severe penalties that await those who engage in fraudulent activities.
