VJ Edgecombe of the Philadelphia 76ers to Sit Out Summer League Game Due to Thumb Injury

Jul 09 2025

Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard VJ Edgecombe will not take the court for Thursday's Summer League matchup against the San Antonio Spurs due to a left thumb sprain.

On Wednesday, the team confirmed that Edgecombe, selected as the No. 3 overall pick from Baylor in this year's draft, is engaged in on-court workouts while collaborating with the medical staff. A reevaluation is scheduled for Saturday.

Following Thursday's game, the Sixers are set to face the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Edgecombe experienced a thumb contusion, which led to his absence from Monday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Utah. He also missed Tuesday's contest against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Despite the team's loss, Edgecombe made a notable impression during his Summer League debut last weekend against the Utah Jazz, recording a double-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. His shooting stats included 13 for 27 from the field and 1 for 7 from beyond the arc.

The timeline for Edgecombe's return to Summer League action remains uncertain as fans and analysts alike await updates on his recovery.
