J.J. Spaun and Melody: A Journey Through Love and Golf
J.J. Spaun, the 2025 US Open champion, celebrated a significant milestone in his career with his wife, Melody, by his side. Their journey together has been marked by both triumphs and challenges, reflecting the ups and downs of professional golf.
Married in July 2019, the couple experienced a pinnacle moment when Melody witnessed J.J. clinch his first major title at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. The atmosphere was electric, yet some spectators noted the couple's unique interactions post-victory.
“Honestly, I feel like he’s always been the underdog,” Melody expressed to the PGA Tour on the 18th green. “He’s finally proved himself. He’s one of the most humble people I know.” Her pride was evident as she continued, “To see him here now, he deserves everything.”
Their relationship began in a light-hearted manner, as J.J. recounted during a 2023 interview with Golf.com. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m a pro golfer,’ thinking I was cool,” he recalled about their first date. Melody’s response was candid: “I don’t even know. What does that mean? Like, does that mean you’re like rich or something?”
Social media marked their first public appearance as a couple in June 2013, when J.J. posted a photo from the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, California. “Good to be back home and with this girl!” he captioned.
For J.J.’s birthday, Melody surprised him with tickets to a Los Angeles Dodgers game. “Best birthday surprise ever,” he shared on Instagram alongside a game-day photo.
Engagement followed soon after, with J.J. sharing a heartfelt message on Instagram: “Of all the places I’ve been… the only place I want to be is with you.”
Valentine’s Day saw J.J. express his affection for Melody, calling her his “laundrywoman, barista, travel agent, #1 supporter, and fiancée.”
The couple tied the knot in a picturesque oceanside ceremony and later announced they were expecting their first child. “On the tee—party of 3!” J.J. wrote on Instagram, sharing an ultrasound image with the caption: “Thanksgiving turkey in the oven early, due Nov 2020.”
Their daughter Emerson arrived as scheduled, followed by the birth of their second daughter, Violet, just days before J.J.’s participation in the Travelers Championship. “If the baby comes Monday, would you consider going?” Melody asked him at the time.
J.J. reflected on their decision-making process regarding his participation in the tournament after Violet’s birth. “We waited to see if the tests were all good and they would be discharged within 24 hours,” he explained.
Hours before his dramatic US Open victory, J.J. faced a challenging morning dealing with a sick child. “My daughter had a stomach bug and was vomiting all night long,” he told reporters after his final round.
Despite the chaos, Melody and their daughters were present to witness J.J.’s moment of glory. “My daughter asks me every time Dad goes golfing, ‘Were you the winner today?’” he shared. “Today she’s like, ‘You’re the winner today.’ She got to see it.”
