Jalen Hurts Declines to Wear Super Bowl Ring, Focuses on New Season

Jul 23 2025

Jalen Hurts is looking ahead. At training camp Wednesday, he clarified why he opted not to wear his Super Bowl LIX ring during last week's ceremony. "I've moved on to the new year," he stated succinctly, addressing speculation about his absence of the ring.

The Eagles celebrated their Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs with a ring ceremony at Ballers at The Battery, months after their decisive 40-22 win. Delays in the ceremony were attributed to production issues with the jeweler, but when it finally took place, most players showcased their rings—except for Hurts.

Images from the event reveal Hurts with the ring still in its box, a notable absence that has not gone unnoticed. "Honestly surreal," he described the experience of seeing the ring in person after practice. "To see something that you've earned, have a moment to appreciate that one last time... it was a moment and that moment's behind us."

Last week, an article ignited discussions about Hurts' ranking among NFL quarterbacks. He was placed ninth in a survey conducted by an analyst who consulted various NFL executives and coaches. This ranking prompted reactions from national media and former players alike.

During his first press conference of training camp, Hurts was asked about his awareness of external rankings. He smiled before responding, "I'm just focused on being the best I can be," reiterating his commitment to improvement.

This mindset is not new for Hurts, who transitioned from being benched in college to becoming a Super Bowl champion last season. Previously, discussions revolved around his relationship with head coach Nick Sirianni; now, the focus has shifted to his standing among NFL quarterbacks.

Hurts' admiration for Michael Jordan is well-documented. In 2023, he partnered with Jordan Brand and often sports Jordan cleats. During the Super Bowl parade, he donned a "Love, Hurts" hoodie, and a memorable photo captured him with the Lombardi Trophy, reminiscent of Jordan's iconic moments.

Earlier this month, Hurts met with Jordan at a brand event in Athens, Greece. When asked about the advice he received from the basketball legend, Hurts remarked, "He used every word but repeat, and I can appreciate that." He emphasized the importance of resetting and nurturing relationships.

"Ultimately, it's a new journey. It's a blank canvas," Hurts explained. "Regardless of whether you win or lose a championship, you have to reset and pursue it with great intensity and passion." He highlighted the importance of building chemistry within the team as they move forward.

Don't expect Hurts to dwell on past achievements anytime soon. "The past is behind us, and the future is too far away," he said. "We have to stay present in worrying about right now."
