Miami Dolphins Offensive Lineman Bayron Matos Hospitalized Following Training Camp Injury

Jul 23 2025

On Wednesday, the Miami Dolphins faced an unsettling moment as offensive lineman Bayron Matos was injured during the first day of training camp.

The 24-year-old was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital after suffering an unspecified injury towards the end of practice. The team confirmed that Matos is currently stable.

Medical personnel attended to Matos for over ten minutes on the field before air rescue arrived, as reported by local news sources.

"It's a really heartbreaking part of the game," expressed Dolphins offensive lineman Austin Jackson, reflecting on the incident. "Very tough."

Matos, originally from Los Mina in Santo Domingo, went undrafted in 2024 but later signed with the Dolphins as a free agent through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for athletes from outside the U.S. to compete in the NFL.

Over the past year, he has been part of Miami's practice squad and signed a reserve/future contract in January. Despite his efforts, Matos has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Before transitioning to football, Matos showcased his athleticism as a two-sport athlete in basketball and baseball. He only began playing football in 2022, walking on to the South Florida football team without any prior experience.
