Ja'Marr Chase's remarkable achievement of the receiving triple crown stands alongside Justin Jefferson's record-breaking performances over his first five seasons. The question of who reigns supreme among NFL wide receivers has been answered: it's a tie.
A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers evaluated the top five wide receivers, considering their current status as the 2025 season approaches. The scoring system awarded first-place votes with 10 points, while subsequent placements garnered 5, 3, 2, and 1 point respectively.
Both Chase and Jefferson garnered four first-place votes each, along with four second-place votes, solidifying their status at the pinnacle of the position.
In the rankings, Amon-Ra St. Brown claimed third place, followed by CeeDee Lamb in fourth, and AJ Brown rounding out the top five. Notably, Tyreek Hill, Garrett Wilson, Terry McLaurin, and Mike Evans also received votes.
Last season, Jefferson recorded an impressive 103 receptions for 1,533 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning him a unanimous All-Pro selection. He made history as the first player to surpass 7,000 receiving yards within just five seasons, setting records for most receptions and yards in the initial three, four, and five seasons of a career.
Chase's performance was equally stellar; he led the league with 127 receptions, 1,708 receiving yards, and 17 touchdown catches last season. This feat made him only the sixth wide receiver in Super Bowl history to achieve the receiving triple crown. His unanimous All-Pro selection highlighted his impact alongside Tee Higgins, providing quarterback Joe Burrow with two formidable targets.
AJ Brown has consistently excelled, recording over 100 receptions and more than 1,100 receiving yards for three consecutive seasons. Following an All-Pro season in 2023, he continued his success in 2024 with 115 catches for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns. His voting breakdown included three third-place votes, one fourth-place vote, and three fifth-place votes.
CeeDee Lamb has emerged as a prolific talent in his first five seasons, earning four Pro Bowl selections and a 2023 All-Pro nod. Last year, he achieved 101 catches for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns, marking his third straight season surpassing the 100/1,100 milestone. Lamb holds the Cowboys' single-season records for receptions (135) and receiving yards (1,749), both set in 2023 when he also established an NFL record with three consecutive games of at least 10 receptions and 150 receiving yards. His voting included two third-place votes and four fourth-place votes.
AJ Brown has solidified his status as one of the league's elite playmakers since joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. Last season, he recorded 67 catches for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns in just 13 games, playing a crucial role in the offense that led to a Super Bowl championship. The three-time Pro Bowl selection surpassed 1,400 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons with the Eagles. His voting results included two third-place votes and three fifth-place votes.
