KaVontae Turpin Faces Arrest on Weapon and Drug Charges
KaVontae Turpin, a player for the Dallas Cowboys, was arrested in Texas on July 5, facing charges related to weapon possession and drug use.
The 28-year-old athlete was taken into custody and booked at the Collin County Jail. Reports indicate he was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of less than two ounces of marijuana.
According to online jail records, Turpin was released the following day, July 6, after posting a $1,500 bail.
Turpin's career took off after a standout season in the 2022 USFL, leading to his signing with the Cowboys. He made history as the first player from the franchise to earn Pro Bowl honors as a designated return specialist during his inaugural NFL season.
In March, he secured a three-year contract worth $18 million. The Cowboys celebrated this milestone on social media, highlighting Turpin's speed with the caption, “The fastest player in the NFL is staying in Dallas.”
In a video message to fans, Turpin expressed his excitement about re-signing with the team: “KaVontae Turpin here with the Cowboys. I just wanted to say shoutout Cowboy nation, resigning. Here for another three years, man. Hit the ground and get it running.”

Turpin's past includes legal troubles that led to his dismissal from Texas Christian University. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to assault charges stemming from an incident in October 2018, resulting in two years of deferred adjudication probation and participation in a 27-week abuse intervention program.
Earlier, in March 2018, he faced arrest in New Mexico for alleged assault and battery. He pleaded not guilty to the battery charge. At that time, Texas Christian University stated they were unaware of the full extent of his legal issues when they made their decision regarding his status.
Reflecting on his journey, Turpin acknowledged his past mistakes in a 2022 interview: “I learned I got to learn from my accountability, my consequences. I’m just looking forward to becoming a greater man now.”
