Kehlani Stands Firm on Israel-Palestine Comments at 2025 AMAs
Kehlani, the five-time Grammy nominee, made headlines again as she walked the red carpet at the 2025 American Music Awards, addressing her views on the Israel-Palestine conflict. This appearance comes shortly after New York City officials canceled her Central Park concert amid rising tensions surrounding her comments.
When approached by reporters, Kehlani did not shy away from expressing her beliefs. “It shouldn’t be a hard thing,” she stated, emphasizing that speaking out against violence should be instinctive. “If people are blowing up and being murdered at mass rates, it should be as easy as breathing to say, ‘Hey I don’t really think this should be happening,’” she told Variety.

Her remarks were pointed, particularly regarding U.S. support for Israel. “We’re funding it so we should stop,” Kehlani asserted, highlighting her perspective on the role of American financial backing in the ongoing conflict.
On the topic of celebrity activism, she expressed confidence in the influence of public figures. “Yeah, I said it a bunch,” she remarked when asked if celebrities should voice their opinions on such issues. “I definitely think we have more power than we think.”

“But all I can say is free Palestine,” she concluded, reiterating her commitment to the cause.
The cancellation of her Central Park performance was a significant event, with NYC officials citing safety concerns as the primary reason. The City Park’s Foundation released a statement emphasizing their commitment to artistic expression while prioritizing the safety of guests and artists.

Kehlani expressed her surprise at the cancellation, revealing on her Instagram Story that she learned about it through social media. “Lol, I just found that one out on Instagram by the way,” she wrote, reflecting on the unexpected news.
“I’m so deeply grounded in my purpose, my mission, my art, my contribution. Back to this album,” she added, indicating her focus on her music despite the controversy.

Prior to this incident, Cornell University also canceled a scheduled performance by Kehlani due to backlash over her previous statements. The artist continues to navigate a complex landscape of public opinion and artistic expression.
