Kyle Lowry Returns to Philadelphia for 20th NBA Season

Jul 07 2025

Kyle Lowry is set to don the Sixers jersey once again as he embarks on his 20th NBA season. The North Philadelphia native officially signed a one-year contract with the team on Monday.

β€œKyle's championship experience and Hall-of-Fame resume speaks for itself,” stated Daryl Morey, president of basketball operations for the Sixers. β€œHe is a proven floor general with tremendous knowledge of the game that is a resource to everyone in the organization. It's only fitting that his 20th NBA season will be right here in Philadelphia, the city he calls home.”

At 39 years old, Lowry's upcoming season will mark his third stint with the Sixers. His illustrious career includes nine years with the Toronto Raptors, where he celebrated an NBA Finals victory in 2019. A six-time All-Star, Lowry also earned Third-Team All-NBA honors during the 2015-16 season.

Last year, Lowry faced challenges on the court, participating in only 35 games and making 12 starts due to a hip injury. His performance included averages of 3.9 points and 2.7 assists, with a shooting percentage of 33% from beyond the arc.

While Lowry may not take on a prominent role this season, he is expected to serve as a mentor for the Sixers' young backcourt, which features All-Star Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, and rookie VJ Edgecombe. Additionally, the team is anticipated to reach an agreement with restricted free agent Quentin Grimes to keep him in Philadelphia this offseason.

Before making his mark in the NBA and at Villanova, Lowry showcased his talent at Northeast and Cardinal Dougherty High Schools.
