Max Kellerman Critiques Travis Kelce's Key Drop in Chiefs' Loss
During a pivotal moment in the Kansas City Chiefs' 20-10 defeat against the Houston Texans, tight end Travis Kelce faced a significant setback. A crucial fourth-quarter pass slipped through his fingers, leading to an interception that effectively ended the game for the Chiefs.
On December 9, podcaster and sports commentator Max Kellerman did not hold back on his “Game Over” podcast, criticizing Kelce for what he deemed a fundamental lapse in skill. “When I see a guy like Kelce drop a pass like last night, for example, the one that hit him in both hands,” Kellerman remarked, “it’s odd to me. You don’t forget how to catch.”
Kelce, who is 36 years old, recorded just one reception for eight yards in that game, marking both as season lows. His demeanor on the sideline reflected the weight of the moment, as the Chiefs’ playoff aspirations took another hit.

Chris Collinsworth, an analyst for Sunday Night Football, also weighed in on the situation. Observing Kelce’s downcast expression, he stated, “The faces of champions are really struggling to comprehend what is happening to this football season.” He attributed the team’s struggles not solely to injuries but to a broader breakdown of performance from key players.
With a current record of 6-7, the Chiefs find themselves two games behind the Texans for the final wild card spot in the AFC. Following their loss, Kansas City’s playoff odds plummeted from 15 percent to 11 percent, particularly after the Los Angeles Chargers secured a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite dwindling chances, quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed confidence in Kelce’s commitment. “I know one thing is he’ll give everything he has the rest of this season to try and give us a chance to make a playoff run,” Mahomes said post-game. “We know the chances are getting lower and lower, but I know the guys on this team are going to give everything they have every opportunity they get.”
As discussions about Kelce’s future loom—he has hinted at retirement considerations after the 2024 season—Mahomes emphasized the importance of cherishing their time together on the field. “Every season that I’ve had with him these last few years, I try to cherish because you never know,” he noted. “He got himself in great shape this year and he’s played great football.”
