Miami Dolphins Secure Zach Sieler with $67.75 Million Extension
The Miami Dolphins have finalized a three-year contract extension with defensive lineman Zach Sieler, valued at up to $67.75 million, which includes $44 million guaranteed. The agreement was confirmed by agent Drew Rosenhaus, following initial reports from various sources.
Sieler, a pivotal figure in the Dolphins' defensive lineup, has demonstrated his worth with back-to-back seasons of 10 sacks, two interceptions—one of which he returned for a touchdown in 2023—alongside 118 total tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.
Originally drafted in the seventh round by Baltimore in 2018, Sieler faced a setback when he was waived by the Ravens during his second season. However, the Dolphins claimed him off waivers in 2019, and he has since evolved into one of the NFL's most effective defensive tackles, amassing 30 sacks over 65 starts.
As he approaches his 30th birthday in September, Sieler had two years remaining on a previous contract signed in 2023, which provided him an annual salary of $10.25 million. With this new deal, he is now secured through the 2029 season.
Despite ongoing discussions regarding his contract, Sieler has actively participated in Dolphins training camp. "I hope the message that it puts out is at the end of the day, we're going to play football," he remarked earlier in camp. "That stuff is very important to me; the respect and the money that my family gets from this game, we give it all on the line every single day."
He continued, "I'm going to continue to do that every day, but to be able to go out there and work despite everything, I think I'm trying to show that you can go out there and play your best ball and still work through stuff without having to compartmentalize things."
This commitment has not gone unnoticed by the Dolphins organization, particularly as they aim to foster a culture of accountability this season. Coach Mike McDaniel commented on Sieler's influence: "I think you define yourself by your actions, most of all in life. I'm very aware that all players have a choice in what they do on a day-to-day basis. His teammates recognize how Zach Sieler plays football and contributes to the building every day."
McDaniel added, "Zach has a vision of a team that I share, and he understands as a leader, he's trying to show guys how he wants teammates to play football. I'm excited every time I see Zach Sieler."
