Mike Tomlin Offers Candid Take on Aaron Rodgers' Performance

Nov 10 2025

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t mince words when asked about Aaron Rodgers’ performance in the recent 25-10 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers. The veteran quarterback, now 41, faced scrutiny after throwing one touchdown and two interceptions, accumulating only 161 passing yards.

“How would you?” Tomlin responded sharply during the postgame press conference, signaling his discontent with the overall offensive display. “Next.”

Despite the blunt assessment, Tomlin later acknowledged that the entire offense struggled, not just Rodgers. “We as an offensive collective were off today, and certainly, he’s a component of that,” he stated. “I’ll let [Rodgers] speak for himself, but we certainly got to be better.”

Rodgers, taking responsibility for the lackluster outing, admitted in his own press conference, “This was not my best performance. I got to play better than this for us to win.” He emphasized the need for improvement across the board, noting, “We got to play better on offense, for sure.”

Reflecting on the game, he mentioned specific missed opportunities: “A lot of stuff wasn’t working. We were bad on third down. I was just a little bit off. I missed DK [Metcalf] early. Could have been a big play.” His candidness highlighted a frustrating day on the field.

Despite the setback, Rodgers remains a pivotal figure for the Steelers, who currently lead the AFC North. This season marks his first with the team after a tumultuous offseason that included a high-profile free agency and a private marriage.

Rodgers has kept details about his wife largely under wraps, known only by her first name, “Brittani.” This secrecy has piqued the curiosity of other players’ spouses. “She’s like a phantom,” remarked one unidentified wife of a Pittsburgh player. “We all want to meet her, to invite her out, get to know her… But we haven’t met her yet.”

In a June interview on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers explained his wife’s desire for privacy. “Didn’t sign up to be a celebrity. Doesn’t want to be a part of it,” he said. “My private life is my private life. It’s gonna stay that way.”

As the season progresses, both Tomlin and Rodgers will need to navigate these challenges while striving for improvement on the field.
