Missouri Cops Probing Whether Foster Mom Swapped Child For Monkey To Expand Exotic Pet Collection
A foster mother from Winfield, Missouri, has been arrested as authorities delve into shocking allegations that she may have given up one of her children in exchange for a monkey. This bizarre case has raised eyebrows and sparked outrage in the community.
Brenda Deutsch, who has fostered over 200 children throughout her career, is also known for her collection of exotic animals. However, her past as a foster parent is now under scrutiny as she faces three felony charges: neglect, child abuse, and child endangerment. These serious allegations stem from the discovery of a missing child who was later found in Texas.
According to Lincoln County prosecutor Mike Wood, a witness has come forward with disturbing information regarding systemic abuse occurring in Deutsch's home. The witness claimed that they were asked to transport the child to Texas, with the understanding that a monkey would be returned in exchange. "We have to conduct further investigations to determine the credibility of these claims," Wood stated, as reported by KSDK.

Details from a probable cause statement reveal that Deutsch allegedly arranged for the girl to stay with a friend in Texas, where the child was reportedly left alone in a house filled with exotic animals and in unsanitary conditions. Wood described the allegations against Deutsch as "particularly heinous and just disturbing to read." He noted that the sheer number of children fostered through her home, combined with the long-standing nature of the alleged abuse, is deeply troubling.
The investigation began on November 21, following an anonymous tip to the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division, which reported claims of mental and physical abuse. The victim recounted instances of being struck with a paddle, shoes, and an open hand. In a particularly harrowing account, the child mentioned being forced down by another person at Deutsch's command. Additionally, the victim stated that Deutsch would confiscate her clothes and give them away as a form of punishment.
Deutsch was taken into custody over the weekend, with her bond set at $250,000 cash. She is scheduled to appear in court this week, as the investigation continues to unfold.
In a statement released online, Wood expressed gratitude to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Detective Bureau for their swift action in expediting initial charges amid what is expected to be a lengthy investigation covering over a decade of alleged abuse. "Thank you for working quickly to ensure the safety of any other potential child victims," he added.
Wood also encouraged anyone with additional information to reach out to his office or investigators, emphasizing the importance of gathering as much information as possible. "Numerous victims and witnesses have already contacted my office, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available," he stated.
