Nicole Kidman Reveals Which Co-Star's 'Bad Breath' Spoiled Their Romantic Scene

Nicole Kidman, a prominent figure in Hollywood, has shared her experiences with on-screen kisses, including those with notable actors like Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. Recently, she opened up about one particular kiss that left her feeling less than thrilled.

During an appearance on the “Las Culturistas” podcast, Kidman recounted her discomfort while filming a scene with Alexander Skarsgård, her co-star from “Big Little Lies.” The discussion took place in the podcast's “I Don’t Think So, Honey” segment, where guests express their biggest annoyances.

“Bad breath is a dealbreaker for me,” Kidman stated emphatically. “You could be the most stunning guy, but if you come at me with bad breath, I’m out.” Her strong feelings about this issue were clear as she elaborated, “If I have to recoil, yikes! You couldn’t pay me enough to continue.”

Kidman did not hold back when identifying Skarsgård as the source of her discomfort. “When Alexander Skarsgård had a falafel sandwich before our scenes in ‘Big Little Lies,’ I thought, ‘No, no, no, Alex. I’m supposed to be kissing you — put that falafel away,’” she recalled, emphasizing that “bad breath does not turn me on.”

She further explained to hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang that the taste and smell of a partner’s mouth are crucial to her. “I’m sure he never ate falafel again after that. I told him, ‘No more falafel. Not before you kiss or make love.’”

In their roles as Celeste and Perry Wright in HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” both actors received Primetime Emmy Awards for their performances. While Skarsgård’s culinary choice may have left Kidman feeling repulsed, she also shared her thoughts on another star’s pleasant scent.
