Ohtani Shines on Mound as Dodgers Snap Losing Streak Against Giants
Michael Conforto's three hits and two runs propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, effectively halting a seven-game losing streak. The game marked a significant moment for Shohei Ohtani, who made strides in his recovery from elbow surgery.
Ohtani delivered three shutout innings, showcasing his potential in his longest appearance for the Dodgers since joining the team in 2023. He threw 36 pitches, allowing just one hit while striking out four batters, a promising sign for his return to form after missing the previous season.
Despite his success on the mound, Ohtani struggled at the plate, going 0 for 4 with two strikeouts while serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff.
For the Giants, Rafael Devers contributed with a sacrifice fly, but it was Conforto's performance that stood out. After reaching base on an infield single in the first inning, he scored on Tommy Edman's groundout. Conforto later added another single in the sixth inning, crossing home plate again thanks to Hyeseong Kim's hit.
Emmett Sheehan (1-0) took over pitching duties after Ohtani, retiring 13 consecutive batters to secure the win. Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott closed out the game, with Scott earning his 19th save as the Dodgers celebrated their first victory since July 3.
Giants starter Lando Roupp (6-6) recorded eight strikeouts but allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits over six innings of work.

A notable moment came in the second inning when Giants shortstop Willy Adames made an errant flip to second base after a diving stop on an infield single by Andy Pages. This error allowed Conforto to advance from first to third, ultimately leading to his run scored on a groundout.
Ohtani's fastball reached impressive speeds, clocking in at 99.9 mph twice during the first inning, further highlighting his potential as he continues his recovery.
Looking ahead, Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (8-7, 2.77 ERA) is set to face Giants left-hander Robbie Ray (9-3, 2.63) in the series finale on Sunday.
