Rangers Triumph Over Athletics with DeGrom's Stellar Performance

Jul 23 2025

Jacob deGrom showcased his prowess on the mound Tuesday night, striking out nine batters and allowing just three hits over six innings as the Texas Rangers defeated the Oakland Athletics 6-2. The game began with a jolt when Lawrence Butler hit a leadoff homer, but deGrom quickly regained control, retiring ten consecutive batters.

Returning from a break since July 12, deGrom (10-2) demonstrated why he is an All-Star, throwing 86 pitches with 60 landing in the strike zone. His performance was pivotal in securing the win for Texas.

Adolis García's fourth-inning homer tied the game, setting the stage for a decisive sixth inning. Marcus Semien then launched a 364-foot shot off the left-field foul pole, a hit that required a replay review for confirmation, giving Texas the lead.

Corey Seager added to the excitement with a three-run homer in the seventh inning, part of a four-run rally that underscored his impressive streak of reaching base in 23 consecutive games.

On the other side, Sean Newcomb (2-5) took the loss for Oakland, while starter J.T. Ginn allowed only one run in five innings, striking out two but ultimately unable to secure a win.

Butler's homer marked his 14th of the season for the Athletics, who are now on a three-game losing streak. Seager's powerful swing not only provided crucial run support but also highlighted the Rangers' offensive depth.

With this victory, deGrom achieved his tenth win of the season, marking a significant milestone as it is the fifth time in his career he has reached double-digit wins. Looking ahead, the Athletics are set to start left-hander JP Sears (7-8, 5.13 ERA) in the series finale on Wednesday, while the Rangers have yet to announce their starting pitcher.
