Ravens and Under Armour Boost Girls' Flag Football in Maryland High Schools
The Baltimore Ravens, in collaboration with Under Armour, are set to broaden their girls' flag football initiative at various Maryland high schools for the upcoming academic year.
Initially launched in 2023 at ten public high schools in Frederick County, the program has seen significant growth. By 2024, it expanded to include 43 schools across Baltimore City, Montgomery County, and Washington County.
Looking ahead to fall 2025, the program will add two more Baltimore City Public Schools: The Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and the National Academy Foundation.
Additionally, the Ravens and Under Armour will collaborate with Calvert and Charles County Public Schools to provide essential funding and uniforms aimed at further developing the program.
In a joint effort with the Washington Commanders, they will also secure funding for schools in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties.
“From the beginning, we have been fully committed to launching and developing this initiative throughout Maryland,” stated Brad Downs, senior vice president of marketing for the Ravens. “We recognize that providing additional funding is essential to the program's long-term sustainability and statewide impact.”
Since its inception three years ago, the Ravens have allocated nearly $600,000 to support the expansion of girls' flag football across the state. Under Armour contributes by designing custom uniforms for participating high school teams.
By fall 2025, a total of 92 schools will be involved in the program statewide, with 14 located in Baltimore.
“Girls' flag is rapidly advancing toward the ultimate goal of becoming a state-sanctioned sport,” the Ravens noted in a statement. “This will allow female student-athletes in every Maryland county to receive these same opportunities well into the future.”
Each participating school will compete during the fall season, culminating in the Maryland Girls Flag Championship at M&T Bank Stadium in November.
