Reds Secure 6-0 Victory Over Marlins, Split Series

Jul 10 2025

Spencer Steer launched a home run while Nick Lodolo delivered a stellar six-inning performance, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 6-0 victory against the Miami Marlins on Thursday. This win allowed the Reds to split the four-game series.

Elly De La Cruz made his mark early, recording his 100th hit of the season with a single, stealing second base, and scoring on Austin Hays' single, giving Cincinnati a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

In the second inning, Steer added to the score with his 11th home run of the season, extending the Reds' lead to 2-0.

Cal Quantrill found his rhythm after Steer's homer, retiring 11 consecutive batters. However, the Reds capitalized in the sixth inning, loading the bases with no outs.

Lodolo (6-6) showcased his skills by allowing just three hits, issuing no walks, and striking out four batters. This performance marked the seventh time this season that the left-handed pitcher has limited opponents to one run or fewer.

In the sixth inning, De La Cruz contributed another run with a single, while TJ Friedl scored on a throwing error by right fielder Dane Myers, pushing the score to 4-0. Hays then followed up with a two-run single.

Quantrill (3-8) struggled through five-plus innings, surrendering five earned runs—the highest total since allowing seven runs against Philadelphia on April 19.

The Marlins threatened in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and one out, but Graham Ashcraft induced pinch-hitter Liam Hicks to ground into a double play, ending the inning.

This victory ensures that the Reds have not been swept in any of their 30 series this season, marking their longest streak without being swept to start a season since 1989.

Looking ahead, Marlins RHP Edward Cabrera (3-3, 3.33 ERA) is set to start against Baltimore on Friday, while the Orioles have yet to announce their starting pitcher. The Reds will see RHP Chase Burns (0-1, 8.10) face off against Rockies RHP Germán Márquez (3-10, 5.84) on Friday.
