Tigers Secure Fifth Consecutive Victory Over Rays
Colt Keith's powerful performance, featuring a home run and three RBIs, propelled the Detroit Tigers to a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.
During this winning streak, which began with a sweep of the Cleveland Guardians, the Tigers have outscored their opponents 19-6.
Starting pitcher Jack Flaherty delivered a solid outing, allowing two runs over 6 1/3 innings while striking out eight batters. Tommy Kahnle (1-1) earned the win after taking over for Flaherty, and Will Vest secured his 15th save by closing out the ninth inning.
The Rays initially took control of the game when Jonathan Aranda homered in the first inning and later doubled, contributing to a 2-0 lead in the third.
Ryan Pepiot held the Tigers hitless until Spencer Torkelson connected for his 21st home run in the fourth, narrowing the gap to 2-1.
Keith's fifth-inning single tied the game, setting the stage for a pivotal seventh inning. Zach McKinstry walked, stole second base for the second time in the game, and scored when Keith launched his eighth home run off Edwin Uceta (5-2).
Gleyber Torres extended his on-base streak to 21 games with a single in the fifth, just one game shy of his career high of 22, achieved twice before, most recently while playing for the New York Yankees.
In a tense moment during the eighth inning, Rays reliever Eric Orze struck Dillon Dingler in the head with a fastball clocked at 94.4 mph after striking out Riley Greene. Orze quickly checked on Dingler, who was unharmed as the pitch deflected off his cheek guard. Orze managed to strike out the next two batters to escape the situation unscathed.
The two teams are set to wrap up their season series on Wednesday afternoon, although thunderstorms are predicted. The Tigers will send RHP Reese Olson (4-3, 2.89 ERA) to the mound against RHP Zack Littell (7-7, 3.50).
