Royals Achieve First Sweep in Texas Since 2003 with 4-1 Victory

Jun 19 2025

Jac Caglianone made headlines Thursday, hitting two home runs in his major league debut as the Kansas City Royals triumphed over the Texas Rangers, 4-1. This victory marked the Royals' first three-game sweep in Arlington since 2003.

Vinnie Pasquantino contributed significantly with a two-run homer, while Michael Wacha showcased his pitching prowess, holding the Rangers hitless until Wyatt Langford's single broke the streak in the sixth inning. Wacha's performance included two hits allowed, one run, and five strikeouts over six innings.

Wacha (4-6) became the third Royals starter to secure a win in June, helping the team rebound from a dismal 0-6 homestand that tied their longest losing streak of the season. This series win in Arlington was particularly notable, as it was their first in over a decade.

Carlos Estévez closed the game with a flawless ninth inning, earning his American League-leading 21st save and his second of the series.

Pasquantino's team-leading 11th home run ignited the scoring in the first inning against Texas starter Shawn Armstrong, who was making an appearance in a bullpen game. Armstrong's run of 11 consecutive scoreless outings came to an end with this game.

Caglianone's first major league homer came in the second inning, a powerful 387-foot shot into the Texas bullpen, showcasing his ability to handle left-handed pitchers. He further impressed by launching another homer in the ninth, this time a staggering 439 feet off Robert Garcia.

Jacob Latz pitched a career-high 5 2/3 innings for Texas, allowing three hits and one run before being replaced. Adolis García represented the potential tying run when Wacha secured a popout to conclude his outing.

Marcus Semien extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI double in the sixth inning, providing a glimmer of hope for the Rangers.

Both teams are set to embark on road series Friday, with Kansas City's RHP Michael Lorenzen (4-7, 4.91 ERA) slated to face San Diego, while Texas RHP Jacob deGrom (6-2, 2.19) will take on Pittsburgh a day after celebrating his 37th birthday.
