Savannah Bananas Bring Unique Baseball Experience to Philadelphia

Jul 27 2025

Citizens Bank Park buzzed with energy as the Savannah Bananas took the field, captivating a crowd of 45,000 fans eager for a night of unconventional baseball.

Families filled the stands, their excitement palpable. "It's electric, I mean, the way everybody came out, we're having a blast," exclaimed Sean Zaks, who attended with his family. "The kids are just over the moon; they got autographs, what a night, what a night."

The Bananas faced off against the Texas Tailgaters, one of three exhibition teams that have joined them on this tour. Corey Kennedy, who managed to snag last-minute tickets, shared her enthusiasm: "We love baseball, but this is so much more than baseball; this is like for everybody. There's dancing and singing ... it doesn't matter your age, I feel like there's something for everybody."

Among the highlights was a special appearance by Shane Victorino, the former Phillies World Series champion. Dressed in the team's signature yellow, he received a standing ovation from the crowd after reaching first base. "I got to play in some great cities; Boston was a great one, but nothing like Philadelphia. When this place gets going, it's a pretty exciting place," Victorino remarked.

The Bananas are currently on their Banana Ball World Tour, which has garnered millions of followers on social media. Their reputation for blending baseball with entertainment—dancing, backflips, and what they proudly call "The Greatest Show in Sports"—has made them a fan favorite.

"Just such a great environment, love the music, love the players, the energy," said Alex Hammond, who was attending for the second time. "This is our second time coming."

For John Sperone, watching his son Joe pitch for the Tailgaters was a dream come true. The 23-year-old from Broomall had always aspired to play in front of a packed stadium. "We've been to many Phillies games, Eagles games, Flyers games, Sixers games, but this is his dream to keep playing baseball, and we support his dream 100%," John stated.

After the game concluded with a 5-1 victory for the Bananas, fans celebrated at a block party where they had the chance to meet some of the players. The excitement continues as the Bananas are set to return to the Bank on Sunday for another sold-out performance.
