Hours before the scheduled performance, Fenway Park announced the cancellation of Shakira's concert, originally set for Thursday night, citing "unforeseen circumstances." This news came as a disappointment to many fans who had eagerly anticipated the event.
In addition, the Friday concert featuring Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn has also been scrapped. Live Nation, the event promoter, revealed that "structural elements were identified as not being up to standard," prompting the decision to cancel both shows. These issues were uncovered during a routine pre-show inspection, with assurances that all personnel remained safe.
Fenway Concerts issued a statement regarding ticket refunds, stating, "Refunds will be available at your point of purchase. We apologize for the inconvenience." The abrupt announcement left many fans in shock, particularly those who had traveled significant distances to attend.
Shakira, the renowned Colombian pop star, was slated to perform as part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, with Wyclef Jean joining her as a special guest. The timing of the cancellation was particularly unfortunate for fans like Laura Beltran, who had flown from Colombia to Connecticut before driving to Boston for her birthday celebration.
"We're a little disappointed because we came from Connecticut to see Shakira. I'm from Barranquilla, Colombia," Beltran expressed. "We just got the news that the concert has been canceled like nine minutes ago."
Adriana Segura, another devoted fan, shared her feelings of disappointment: "I've never been to a concert; it's my first time. I'm 63 years old and I'm disappointed." The emotional toll of the cancellations was palpable among attendees.

Uncertainty looms over whether the concerts will be rescheduled. One fan lamented, "We were supposed to come in November, and she rescheduled her entire tour. So, it's already six months, eight months down the line and it's canceled again so it's definitely sad."
Shakira's next performance is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The canceled concerts mark the beginning of this year's Fenway Concert Series, leaving fans hopeful for future events despite this setback.
