A seven-year-old boy is recovering after surgeons removed an 8cm nail from his brain, a harrowing incident that unfolded during playtime.

The child fell onto an exposed nail, which penetrated his skull and entered his head. His family, unaware of the nail's length, recognized the severity of the situation and quickly transported him to a local hospital in Balrampur district, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Due to his deteriorating condition, he was swiftly transferred to a trauma center in Lucknow for specialized care. Initial assessments by trauma surgeons revealed alarming findings; MRI and CT scans indicated that the tip of the nail was dangerously close to critical areas of his brain.

What followed was a high-stakes operation that lasted an exhausting 10 hours. Utilizing advanced microsurgical techniques and neuro-navigation technology, the surgical team successfully extracted the nail while avoiding damage to vital blood vessels.

Dr. Sandip Tiwari, head of the trauma surgery department at King George’s Medical University, remarked on the miraculous nature of the operation: β€œThe investigation revealed that the nail had missed a major blood vessel by a fraction, which was nothing short of miraculous. After consulting experts, we decided to proceed with a highly complicated surgery.”

Post-surgery, the boy was placed in intensive care for close monitoring. Fortunately, doctors have reported that he is now out of danger following the incident on May 16.

Local media indicate that this intricate surgery may be documented in an international medical journal due to its complexity and the remarkable skill demonstrated by the surgical team.
