Tech Executive Found 'Smeared on the Asphalt,' Missing a Foot After 20-Story Fall from Luxury Chicago Condo; No Charges Filed
A Chicago tech executive's life took a tragic turn when Caitlin Tracey, just 36 years old, was discovered in a stairwell of her luxury condo building, described by her family as "pulverized" and missing a foot. This heartbreaking incident has left her loved ones grappling with grief and a desperate need for answers.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, Tracey died from "multiple injuries" sustained in a "fall from height," having plunged more than 20 stories down. However, the official ruling on the manner of her death remains "undetermined," and, shockingly, no charges have been filed in connection with this gruesome incident.

Tracey's husband, Adam Beckerink, a 46-year-old tax attorney known in Chicago, was charged last month with domestic battery in New Buffalo, Michigan, related to incidents that occurred in January and August 2024. He’s also facing charges for allegedly assaulting police officers during his arrest, as reported by local media.
Before Tracey's body was found on October 27, Beckerink had reported her missing, but after questioning by Chicago police, he was released without any charges. His attorney has publicly stated that Beckerink had no involvement in his wife's death and plans to continue defending him in court.

Tracey's family is now determined to keep the case in the public eye. They’ve hired attorneys who revealed the shocking details of her injuries, stating that her body was "pulverized" and that her foot was severed in the fall. This revelation has only intensified their quest for justice.
In a twist of events, Tracey's parents found themselves in a legal battle over her remains after Beckerink claimed he had the right to her body as her surviving spouse. Ultimately, her parents prevailed and took her remains back to Michigan, where they could lay her to rest.

Beckerink, who was previously a partner at the corporate law firm Duane Morris, was terminated following the emergence of domestic abuse allegations. The warrant issued against him in Michigan is linked to a domestic violence case at Tracey’s home, where she lived before and during their brief six-month marriage.
In January 2024, police responded to a call at Tracey’s home, where they found her with visible injuries. She accused Beckerink of assault and theft, claiming he had attacked her and taken some of her belongings. The police report noted that she had cuts on her lips and other signs of injury.
According to court documents, Beckerink allegedly instructed Tracey to tell officers that her 911 call was "accidental." In August 2024, police were called to the same residence again, leading to Beckerink facing four charges, including domestic violence and obstruction of justice.

Prior to her death, Tracey had sought a protective order against Beckerink in November 2023, following multiple reports of domestic battery. However, she dropped the case the following month after he allegedly threatened to sue her for defamation, as indicated in filings by her parents.
After his arrest on March 7, Beckerink was placed in protective custody at the Cook County Jail. As of now, it remains unclear what the current status of his case in Michigan is, or if the new findings regarding Tracey’s cause of death will impact the ongoing investigation by the Chicago Police Department.
