"The Pitt" Earns 13 Emmy Nominations, Highlighting Medical Drama's Impact
"The Pitt," a medical drama set against the backdrop of Pittsburgh, has garnered 13 Emmy nominations, including prestigious categories such as best drama and best actor for Noah Wyle.
In addition to its major nominations, the series received recognition in several other categories, including supporting actress, directing, writing, sound editing, makeup, and casting.
Despite "The Pitt" achieving significant acclaim, Apple TV+'s "Severance" dominated the nominations with a total of 27. HBO Max's "The Penguin" followed closely with 24 nominations, while both "The White Lotus" and Apple TV+'s "The Studio" secured 23 nominations each.
Wyle portrays Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch in "The Pitt," which has been praised for its medical accuracy and innovative real-time storytelling format. The series consists of 15 hour-long episodes that depict a continuous 15-hour ER shift.
The show's description on HBO Max emphasizes its realistic portrayal of the challenges faced by healthcare workers, highlighting the experiences of frontline heroes at a Pittsburgh hospital.
Although most of the first season was filmed on a set in Burbank, California, designed to resemble Allegheny General Hospital, the production team dedicated three days last September to filming in Pittsburgh. This included capturing drone footage over the hospital and various city locations, with some scenes shot on the hospital's helipad.
Produced by R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, and Michael Hissrichโwho all have a history of collaboration with Wyle on "ER"โthe show benefits from a strong Pittsburgh connection, as both Wells and Hissrich are graduates of Carnegie Mellon University.
Currently, production is in progress for the second season of "The Pitt," which is anticipated to premiere in January 2026, as reported by industry sources.
