Tre'Von Moehrig Strikes Jauan Jennings in Controversial MNF Incident

Nov 25 2025

During the Monday Night Football matchup, Carolina Panthers safety Tre’Von Moehrig delivered a controversial hit to San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, targeting his groin. The incident drew gasps from fans as it unfolded on the field.

Following the 49ers' 20-9 victory on November 24, Jennings confronted Moehrig, striking him in the facemask and pushing him as teammates intervened. “I was just responding to some childish behavior,” Jennings explained to reporters after the game.

He acknowledged that Moehrig’s hit was unexpected but noted his reputation for physical play. “I think it’s probably just like I was saying, just the history of me playing ball,” Jennings remarked. “I play hard. I’m physically stronger than a lot of DBs out there, and a lot of things happen in between the whistles. With me at least.”

Moehrig offered his perspective, claiming Jennings had been “talking crazy” and pushing him throughout the game. “He was just doing some extra stuff after the play,” he stated. “I’ll take that one. It wasn’t just frustration. It was isolated.”

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan supported Jennings, commending him for maintaining composure in response to what he labeled a “cheap shot.” “I was really proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there and getting to the sideline,” Shanahan said.

On the other side, Panthers coach Dave Canales indicated he would investigate the incident further. “I’ll get to the bottom of that,” he said, noting he hadn’t yet reviewed the footage. “I want to see exactly what happened. I haven’t had the chance to talk to Tre about that yet. That’ll be a conversation.”

The 49ers are set to face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, November 30, while the Panthers will take on the Los Angeles Rams that same afternoon. The NFL is expected to review the altercation and may impose suspensions on either or both players, as reported by sources.

In a related context, the league recently suspended Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase for one game without pay after he was caught on camera spitting at Pittsburgh Steelers player Jalen Ramsey. Initially denying the act, Chase later issued an apology via Instagram.

“What I did was wrong,” he stated in his post. “The circumstances don’t matter. My passion for the game is no excuse. There’s zero place in our sport — or in life — for that level of disrespect.”

Chase continued, “I want to personally apologize to everyone within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. I let my emotions in the moment get the better of me. I can only hope and trust you know none of it represents who I am — not as a competitor, teammate, or person.”
