VJ Edgecombe Sidelined for Summer League Game Against Thunder
Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard VJ Edgecombe did not participate in Monday night's Summer League matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a thumb contusion. Reports indicate that the injury is not serious, and the decision to hold him out was made as a precautionary measure.
Edgecombe, selected as the No. 3 overall pick in last month’s NBA draft from Baylor, showcased his potential during his debut on Saturday against the Utah Jazz. Despite the team’s loss, 93-89, he delivered an impressive performance, recording a double-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. His shooting stats included 13 of 27 from the field, though he struggled with three-pointers, hitting just one of seven attempts.
Looking ahead, the Sixers are scheduled to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night in the Salt Lake City Summer League. Whether Edgecombe will be available for this game remains uncertain.
Later this week, the team will transition to the NBA 2K26 Summer League in Las Vegas, which could provide a more suitable environment for Edgecombe's return to action.

As he integrates into a robust Sixers backcourt that includes All-Star Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, and restricted free agent Quentin Grimes—who is anticipated to rejoin the squad—Edgecombe's contributions will be closely monitored.
Additionally, the Sixers made another strategic move in the recent draft by selecting Auburn's Johni Broome with the No. 35 overall pick in the second round, further bolstering their roster for the upcoming season.
