3M Open Introduces Family Day for 2023 Tournament

Jun 30 2025

The countdown has begun for Minnesota's premier golf event, the PGA 3M Open, set to take place at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine from July 21 to July 27. Preparations are in full swing as the course gears up to welcome thousands of spectators.

This year, the tournament anticipates an even larger crowd, particularly with an increase in family attendance. Viewing tents are currently being erected around the greens to accommodate the growing number of fans.

In a fresh initiative, Sunday, July 27, will be designated as "Family Day." This special day aims to create a fun-filled atmosphere for families attending the tournament.

"We're going to have a ton of mascots from local sports teams. I mean, who doesn't love mascots, right?" remarked tournament director Mike Welch. "If you have young kids or grandkids and you are one of the 23 million people who subscribe to Blippy and Mika on YouTube, you're going to be in for a treat."

While the focus is on family-friendly activities, Welch emphasized that safety remains a top priority. The tournament staff is proactively preparing for any severe weather conditions that may arise during the event.

"We've had an evacuation plan every year, so we plan for it," he stated. "I can tell you those evac meetings have already started. There will be a plan in place no matter where you are on the golf course."

Attendees can also look forward to a hydration station located at Hole 14, encouraging everyone to bring refillable water bottles.

For those interested in contributing to the success of the 3M Open, there are still 75 volunteer spots available for a fee of $80. Volunteers receive a hat, polo shirt, and a three-quarter zip jacket, along with a ticket to the tournament on days they are not volunteering.

"So it's a $600 value for $80. It's an awesome, awesome deal," Welch added.

A portion of all ticket sales and expenditures at the course will benefit Minnesota charities. Over the past seven years, the tournament has contributed more than $8.5 million back to local organizations.
