Bill Belichick is making his way to Hulu, stepping into the spotlight as the new head coach of North Carolina football.
The streaming giant, owned by Disney, is collaborating with EverWonder Studios to produce a docuseries centered on the 73-year-old coach's transition from NFL legend to college football leader, as reported by industry insiders.
EverWonder Studios brings a wealth of experience in sports programming, having previously produced high-profile events such as the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight and the NFL's Christmas Day games on Netflix.
This announcement follows the abrupt cancellation of North Carolina's Hard Knocks deal with HBO, which reportedly fell apart due to complications involving Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.
While the title of the upcoming docuseries remains under wraps, sources indicate that Hudson's company has filed trademarks for intriguing titles like “Chapel Bill (Bill’s Version),” “Do Your Job: (Bill’s Version),” and “No Days Off (Bill’s Version),” all seemingly inspired by Taylor Swift’s album re-releases.
In April, it was revealed that Hudson played a crucial role in halting the HBO project, insisting on a significant role in its production. NFL Films had planned to commence filming in Chapel Hill on March 1, but discussions took an unexpected turn, leading to discomfort among the parties involved.
Jessica Boddy, NFL vice president for commercial operations, communicated to UNC's legal team that the situation had become untenable. Although she offered to cover the school’s incurred costs, UNC faced a loss of $200,000 in facility fees and additional exposure.
This incident was just one of many surrounding Belichick and Hudson. Shortly before the Hard Knocks debacle, Belichick appeared on CBS to promote his book, “The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football.” During the interview, when asked about Hudson, she interjected to deflect the question.
Belichick later issued a statement clarifying that he had intended to discuss only his book during the interview. CBS countered with its own statement, asserting that no such agreement existed.
Following the fallout from the Hard Knocks cancellation, rumors circulated that UNC had barred Hudson from its football facilities; however, the university denied these claims.
As an eight-time Super Bowl champion, Belichick is poised to embark on his inaugural season in college football this fall. His debut game with North Carolina is scheduled against Texas Christian University at home on Monday, September 1.
