Braves Dominate Marlins 7-1 with Historic Umpire Behind the Plate
Three home runs propelled the Atlanta Braves to a commanding 7-1 victory against the Miami Marlins on Sunday, with contributions from Matt Olson, Marcell Ozuna, and Michael Harris II. The game showcased a strong performance from pitcher Joey Wentz, who secured his first win since joining the Braves.
Jen Pawol made headlines as she officiated behind the plate, marking a significant milestone as the first female umpire to work a regular-season game in Major League Baseball. Her presence drew attention, especially after her commendable performance during Saturday's doubleheader.
Fans rallied around Pawol, displaying signs that read "Way to go Jen!" as she confidently called balls and strikes, making her historic role appear seamless. Wentz (1-2) delivered an impressive outing, allowing just one run over 5 1/3 innings, a notable achievement since being claimed off waivers from Minnesota.
The Braves continued their momentum from Saturday's doubleheader sweep, winning four out of five games in the series, which included a rescheduled matchup due to rain earlier in April. In the second inning, Derek Hill's two-out double off Wentz set the stage for Liam Hicks' single that brought in Miami's only run.
Ozuna's three-run homer and Harris' solo shot in the seventh inning further solidified Atlanta's lead. Jurickson Profar contributed significantly with two hits, including a run-scoring double off Tyler Phillips (1-1) that gave the Braves a 2-1 advantage in the fifth inning. Profar later scored on Phillips' second wild pitch.

Miami's right-hander Cal Quantrill was removed after just 47 pitches, having allowed one run on three hits without issuing any walks over four innings—his second-lowest pitch count of the season.
Both teams will have a day off on Monday. The Marlins have yet to announce their rotation for the upcoming series against Cleveland starting Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the Braves are set to face the New York Mets with Spencer Strider (5-9, 4.04 ERA) on the mound against Clay Holmes (9-6, 3.46).
