Braves Make History with Doubleheader Sweep Over Marlins and First Female Umpire
Marcell Ozuna showcased his power at the plate, launching two home runs as the Atlanta Braves triumphed over the Miami Marlins 8-6 on Saturday night, completing a doubleheader sweep that marked a significant milestone in Major League Baseball.
Jen Pawol made history by officiating both games, serving as the third base umpire in the nightcap and first base umpire in the opener. Her presence was celebrated with applause during introductions, and between games, MLB announced that her cap from the first game would be enshrined at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
The Braves dominated the first game, winning 7-1, fueled by rookie Hurston Waldrep's impressive performance on the mound and a pivotal three-run homer from Michael Harris II.
In the second game, Erick Fedde (4-12) secured his first win in three starts with the Braves, while Raisel Iglesias closed out the game flawlessly for his 16th save.
Ozuna's contributions were crucial; he hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and followed it up with a three-run blast in the fifth, propelling the Braves from a 4-0 deficit to a 5-4 lead. The latter shot traveled an impressive 416 feet to left field, capping a four-run inning.
Catcher Drake Baldwin also made an impact, going 2 for 5 with three RBIs, including two RBIs during his designated hitter role in the first game.

Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara (6-11) struggled, allowing five runs over five innings, which included both of Ozuna's home runs. His ERA now stands at 6.55 after giving up at least five runs in ten of his 23 starts this season.
Xavier Edwards and Heriberto Hernandez each contributed two RBIs for the Marlins, while rookie Jakob Marsee impressed with a 2 for 2 performance and two walks, raising his batting average to .448 in his first ten games.
As the series continues, Marlins right-hander Cal Quantrill (4-9, 5.21) is set to face off against Braves left-hander Joey Wentz (2-3, 5.34) in the final game of this five-game series on Sunday.
