Brawl Erupts at Massachusetts Baseball Game, Two Charged

Jul 23 2025

Chaos erupted at Fino Field in Milford, Massachusetts, during a playoff game on Monday night, resulting in two individuals facing assault charges. The incident unfolded in the fourth inning of a matchup between Milford Post 59 and East Springfield.

According to local authorities, tensions escalated from trash talking to physical altercations, prompting a swift response from the Milford police. Coach Steve Divitto intervened, attempting to quell the situation and requesting police assistance.

"First and foremost, it was everyone's safety," Divitto stated, emphasizing that his players were not involved in the brawl. "I feel horrible for my kids because I think the narrative that may have been out there or maybe it's not, was that they were involved and they were not involved at all, so that's important to know."

Police identified 19-year-old Eliezer Rosario Lebron from East Springfield and a 17-year-old Milford resident as the individuals charged with assault and battery. Witness Tony Chinappi described the scene: "There was just a lot of commotion, and they ran behind the dugout I recall, and I just saw some really strong punches."

Officers arrived promptly to disperse the crowd, leading to the suspension of the remainder of the game. Fan Lou Colabello, a former player for Milford, expressed disbelief at the incident: "Baseball has always had a great reputation in Milford, and I don't think in my lifetime I've ever seen anything like that at a sporting event never mind a baseball game."

The game resumed on Wednesday night with heightened security measures in place and fewer players on the Springfield side. Milford Police Chief Robbie Tusino addressed the situation, stating, "We want everyone to be safe. What happened the other night not only is it unacceptable it's dangerous. And when you get a closed-in environment like a game where people are in proximity it doesn't take much for someone to get seriously hurt."

Despite losing the game, Milford's players faced more disappointment over the violent conclusion of Monday's match. Chinappi remarked on the broader societal issues contributing to such incidents: "The whole country is enraged about a lot of things, and I think we need to cool it basically and have reasoning take over."

In response to the brawl, police have issued bans to anyone involved from attending future games. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for sportsmanship and safety in community events.
