Marlins Dominate Orioles 6-0 Behind Janson Junk's Stellar Performance
Janson Junk showcased his skills on the mound Saturday, allowing just five hits over seven innings in a commanding 6-0 victory against the Baltimore Orioles. The right-hander outperformed former Marlins pitcher Trevor Rogers, who faced his old team for the first time since last July's trade.
Derek Hill contributed significantly, driving in two runs, while Xavier Edwards added a home run to the mix. The Marlins, initially stifled by Rogers, found their rhythm late in the game, breaking through with a flurry of runs after being limited to a single hit through six innings.
Junk improved his record to 4-1, striking out two batters and walking none in what marked the longest outing of his career. Despite not having a perfect inning, he consistently delivered crucial pitches when needed.
Rogers, now 2-1, was pulled from the game with two outs in the seventh after allowing a single to Dane Myers. This marked a pivotal moment as Miami capitalized on the opportunity. Following Rogers' exit, Gregory Soto hit Kyle Stowers with a pitch, setting the stage for Hill's RBI single that broke the scoreless tie.
The Marlins extended their lead with an additional run in the eighth and exploded for four more in the ninth, highlighted by Edwards' two-run homer off Scott Blewett. Rogers allowed only two hits, both to Myers, but recorded a season-high eight strikeouts during his time on the mound.

In the first inning, Stowers made a critical defensive play, throwing out Gunnar Henderson at home plate on a two-out single from Ryan O'Hearn, preventing an early run for Baltimore. The Orioles struggled to generate offense, not getting another runner in scoring position until the sixth inning.
With Rogers out of the game, Miami seized the opportunity to exploit Baltimore's struggling bullpen. The Orioles did manage to extend their franchise record for consecutive games with a walk to 172 when O'Hearn drew a base on balls leading off the ninth inning.
Looking ahead, Orioles rookie Brandon Young (0-3, 6.14 ERA) aims for his first major league win in Sunday’s matchup against Miami’s Eury Pérez (2-2, 4.00), setting the stage for another exciting game.
