California School Aide Pleads Guilty to Sex with Teen Student
Lisette Ortega Veles, a 32-year-old school aide, has pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual acts with a 17-year-old student at Mar Vista High School in the San Diego area. Her admission of guilt could lead to a prison sentence of up to five years.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred off-campus over the course of a year. Reports surfaced on May 19, prompting police intervention after allegations emerged regarding Ortega's inappropriate relationship with the minor.
Following an investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, authorities found sufficient evidence to charge Ortega with multiple offenses, including unlawful sexual intercourse and oral copulation with a victim under 18.
Detectives also allege that Ortega attempted to prevent the student from disclosing the nature of their relationship, further complicating the case against her.
Ortega was employed as a contracted student support aide through Ro Health, a company that provides staffing for schools and healthcare facilities. The company has stated that it conducts thorough background checks on its employees.
On May 21, Ortega was arrested and subsequently charged with several sex crimes related to her actions with the minor. These charges include arranging meetings with the intent to commit lewd acts and attempting to dissuade the victim from reporting the incidents.
Her sentencing is scheduled for October 29 at the South County Courthouse in Chula Vista. The judge will determine her fate during this hearing, as her plea deal did not include a predetermined sentence.
In response to the allegations, Ro Health emphasized its commitment to safety and thorough employee screening processes, stating, “At Ro Health, safety is our top priority. We take these allegations extremely seriously and are investigating the issue thoroughly.”
The company reiterated its dedication to maintaining high standards for employee conduct, particularly in environments involving vulnerable populations.
