Cardinals Dominate Marlins with 7-1 Victory
Andre Pallante showcased an impressive performance on the mound, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings as the St. Louis Cardinals triumphed over the Miami Marlins 7-1 on Monday night.
Pallante (6-7) began the game by retiring the first ten batters he faced, only to issue a walk to Jesús Sánchez in the fourth inning. The Marlins managed their only hit in the sixth when Graham Pauley connected for a single against the right-hander.
With four strikeouts and only one walk, Pallante effectively utilized 49 of his 81 pitches for strikes, demonstrating control and precision throughout the game.
Alec Burleson contributed significantly to the Cardinals' offense, hitting his 14th home run of the season—a 411-foot blast to center field in the third inning off a fastball from Edward Cabrera (4-5).
Cabrera pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out four and walking three batters.
In relief, Steven Matz maintained the momentum by allowing just one hit in a scoreless eighth inning. However, Matt Svanson faced challenges in the ninth, giving up a walk and two hits, including an RBI single from Agustín Ramírez.
The Marlins faced their second consecutive loss after a four-game winning streak was halted on Sunday.
In the fourth inning, Yohel Pozo extended the Cardinals' lead to 2-0 with a double, advancing to third on a wild pitch before scoring due to an errant throw from Ramírez that sailed past third baseman Pauley.
The Cardinals exploded offensively in the seventh inning, scoring five runs. Burleson reached base on a catcher's interference call with the bases loaded, followed by Masyn Winn's three-run double. Jordan Walker capped off the inning with a double that drove in Winn.
Pauley ended Pallante's no-hit bid by lining a 94 mph fastball into right field to lead off the sixth.
Prior to this outing, Pallante had struggled, going 0-3 with a 9.76 ERA in his last three starts, each time surrendering eight or more hits.
Looking ahead, the Marlins are set to face RHP Sandy Alcantara (5-9, 6.66 ERA) against Cardinals RHP Sonny Gray (10-4, 4.33) as the series continues on Tuesday.
