Chris Jones Responds to Critics with Kanye West Quote Following Chiefs' Defeat
After a narrow 22-19 defeat to the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones took to Instagram to remind fans of the team's championship potential.
On November 17, Jones, a three-time Super Bowl champion, shared a post featuring a quote from Kanye West: “They act like you can’t lose a few games and still win the championship.” This message came in response to the backlash following the Chiefs' latest setback, which left their season record at 5-5.
Despite the loss, Jones emphasized the importance of unity and self-reflection within the team. “It’s a tough game, it’s a division game, and you never really feel good after a loss,” he stated. “That’s a lot of lessons you can learn after a loss. I think for us, most importantly, coming together as a team, self-evaluation’s at an all-time high.”

He pointed out that penalties were a significant issue during the game, stating, “If we want to win, we kind of can’t beat ourselves. That’s a starting point.” Jones underscored the need for cohesion among teammates, especially in challenging moments when external expectations weigh heavily.
While Jones remains optimistic, his performance this season has not matched his usual standards. With 15 tackles, seven solo tackles, and three sacks over ten games, he is trailing behind his career averages.
Frustrations appear to be mounting within the locker room. Tight end Travis Kelce opted not to address the media after the game, and head coach Andy Reid subtly critiqued quarterback Patrick Mahomes in his postgame remarks. Reid explained the team’s offensive strategy, noting, “We’re calling quite a few of the [run-pass options]. Yesterday, they were giving us opportunities to throw the football.”
Mahomes himself acknowledged his inconsistency during the game, stating, “I think we’re really talented and we’ve got a lot of great players, but it’s about being more consistent. I think it starts with me.” He reflected on moments of both success and missed opportunities throughout the match.
The Chiefs will look to rebound in their next game against the Indianapolis Colts at home on November 23.
