Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was arrested Friday night on weapons charges and is currently being held without bail, according to authorities.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department initiated a traffic stop in South L.A. due to vehicle code violations. During this stop, they discovered five firearms within Perryman's vehicle.

Among the firearms were two assault-style rifles, leading to his arrest on suspicion of weapons violations. The sheriff's department noted that Perryman was cooperative throughout the encounter.

He remains in custody at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station and is set to appear in court on Tuesday.

The Chargers organization, along with Perryman's agent, released a statement acknowledging awareness of the situation and indicated they are in the process of gathering more information.

Details regarding the full extent of the charges against him have yet to be disclosed.

Perryman, 32, was originally drafted by the then-San Diego Chargers in 2015. He played six seasons with the franchise before brief tenures with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. He returned to Los Angeles prior to the 2024 season, where he started 11 games and served as a defensive captain.
