Dolphins Secure Cornerback Jack Jones with One-Year Contract
The Miami Dolphins have strengthened their secondary by signing cornerback Jack Jones to a one-year contract, announced Saturday.
Last season, Jones recorded 69 tackles, three interceptions—one of which he returned for a touchdown—and achieved 15 pass breakups during 16 starts with the Raiders. His tenure with Las Vegas ended when he was released earlier this year.
Originally drafted in the fourth round by New England in 2022, Jones experienced a rollercoaster career with the Patriots before being claimed off waivers by the Raiders in 2023.
During his time in Las Vegas, he participated in 24 games, starting 19, and made five interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. However, he also struggled at times, allowing significant plays by opposing receivers.
Notably, his four defensive touchdowns rank as the second most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2022.
With the recent trade of All-Pro Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami was actively seeking a starting-caliber cornerback to fill the gap.
This offseason, the Dolphins have brought in several cornerbacks to compete for roster positions. Unfortunately, veteran Artie Burns was placed on injured reserve this week after suffering a torn ACL on the first day of training camp.
In addition to these moves, the Dolphins also waived cornerback Ryan Cooper Jr. on Saturday.
