Eagles Trade for Cornerback Jakorian Bennett from Raiders
The Philadelphia Eagles have made a strategic move by trading for cornerback Jakorian Bennett from the Las Vegas Raiders, as confirmed by various sources on Monday night. In return, the Eagles sent defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV to the Raiders.
Bennett, a 24-year-old talent, was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft after a standout career at the University of Maryland. His journey in the NFL has seen him participate in 24 games over the past two seasons, with 11 of those being starts.
During the 2024 season, Bennett recorded 26 tackles and eight pass deflections across ten games before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the final seven weeks. Now, he is set to join the Eagles as they gear up for training camp, where he will compete for a starting outside corner position alongside Quinyon Mitchell.
The competition is fierce, with Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo emerging as frontrunners for the role, while Eli Ricks also vies for a spot. The Eagles are in search of a new starter to complement Mitchell following the release of veteran Darius Slay and the departure of Isaiah Rodgers in free agency.
Defense coordinator Vic Fangio provided insight into the ongoing competition, noting that both Jackson and Ringo have been performing well. "I think both of them are having a good camp, but it's close and been happy with both of them and we'll see," Fangio remarked on Monday.
Booker, who played 17 games last season with the Eagles, contributed 18 tackles, one sack, and two quarterback hits. He initially joined Philadelphia's practice squad in 2023 after being drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
