Florida Monster Savagely Kills Ex-Girlfriend’s Toddler in Brutal Beating, Snapping Her Spine

Jun 07 2025

Travis Ray Thompson, 27, was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend's toddler, Jacklyn Schwingel, in a brutal attack that left her with severe injuries.

The incident occurred on May 2, 2022, just a week after Thompson's relationship with Jacklyn's mother ended. On that day, the mother left her daughter in Thompson's care while she went to work.

Approximately 25 minutes after she departed, Thompson called the mother, claiming something was wrong with Jacklyn. Upon her return, she discovered her daughter unresponsive and barely clinging to life.

Medical personnel rushed Jacklyn to the hospital, but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries. Doctors suspected abuse due to the extent of her injuries, which included a severed spine and significant internal bleeding.

During the investigation, Thompson told detectives he had been in another room when he heard a loud noise and found Jacklyn unresponsive. However, forensic evidence contradicted his account, revealing that he had inflicted the fatal injuries.

The Medical Examiner's Office concluded that Thompson had bent the child backward with such force that it resulted in a spinal fracture. Prosecutors characterized his actions as monstrous.

“This monster stole the life of an innocent child, and today, the justice system made sure he will never walk free again,” stated Bill Gladson, State Attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit. “Life in prison is too good for this kind of evil.”

After only two hours of deliberation, jurors reached their verdict, ensuring that Thompson will spend the rest of his life behind bars for this heinous crime.
