Former Chiefs PA Announcer Resigns Amid Controversy
Former Kansas City Chiefs public address announcer Dale Carter's resignation has sparked considerable discussion, as he had envisioned a more dignified departure from his role.
After 16 years at Arrowhead Stadium, Carter announced his resignation last week, a decision that took many by surprise.
“Seems I caused quite the stir with my news about resigning from the PA role with the Chiefs,” he shared on Facebook on September 12. “I tried to exit gracefully without getting into the details.”
The announcement first came during his radio show, The Dale Carter Morning Show, on Country 94.1 KFKF in Kansas City, where he hinted at a “red line” crossed by the organization that prompted his exit.
“Seems like everyone wants to know what my ‘red line’ was,” Carter remarked on social media.
In a follow-up post, he elaborated on the circumstances leading to his resignation. “Last season, as we were heading into the playoffs, the people I work for (65 TPT Productions) told me they were hearing from ‘a high level’ that someone had heard another PA guy at another stadium really amp it up on 3rd down and they wanted me to experiment with different calls,” he explained. “Some of you caught on to that and mentioned that you noticed. I didn’t agree with what they wanted me to do but I’ve always been a team player and tried to do whatever they wanted me to try. Until this week.”
On September 9, Carter received a call indicating that the organization preferred another PA announcer to take over the 3rd down call, a decision he deemed unacceptable. “That was my red line,” he stated. “I wish them the best of luck.”
Carter reflected on his commitment to the team, noting he “never missed a game” during his tenure. “I worked every major Fall/Winter holiday,” he wrote. “I feel like I gave everything I had. It’s just time to close that chapter. Hopefully this answers all of the questions and we can all have a great weekend!”
The Chiefs ushered in a new era at Arrowhead on September 14, with Nate Rohr stepping in as the new PA announcer during the team's home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Inquiries regarding Carter’s resignation have been directed to the Kansas City Chiefs for further comment.
