Megyn Kelly expressed uncertainty regarding the motivations behind the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Following her vehement anti-trans commentary on Thursday, which linked “trans ideology” to Kirk’s death, she shifted her narrative the next day.
“I don’t know what this guy was into,” Kelly remarked about Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect in custody. “As for the ‘trans’ reference, that’s unclear,” she continued, noting that the bullet allegedly used in the shooting bore the phrase, “Notices bulges OWO what’s this?” She inaccurately associated this with furry culture, suggesting it was part of the trans community.

Furry culture, characterized by a fascination with anthropomorphic animals, is not inherently sexual nor exclusive to transgender individuals. Nevertheless, Kelly described it as “a bizarre sort of offshoot of the weird trans thing,” citing online memes as evidence of its connection to trans issues.
The phrases found on the ammunition included references to a popular anti-fascism anthem and a meme related to online sexual roleplay within the furry community. The bullets also featured symbols resembling a video game combo from Helldivers 2, adding layers of complexity to the investigation.
Kelly’s confusion stemmed from a Wall Street Journal report that suggested “trans ideology” was inscribed on the ammunition. Despite a senior law enforcement official later disputing this claim as “unverified” and possibly “misinterpreted,” Kelly remained adamant about her anti-trans stance, asserting she would be “relentless” in her rhetoric.
On Friday, the Journal issued an editor’s note revising its earlier claims. As the day progressed, Kelly appeared increasingly uncertain about where to direct her accusations.

“We all feel like if we can find the reason behind this one, then we can prevent the next one,” she stated, attempting to connect ideology with violence. “You know, we’ll figure out what was the ideology. OK, we’ll look for that ideology and we’ll guard against it.”
However, she acknowledged that the situation was more complicated than her initial conclusions suggested. “He was white. I think the family was Christian,” she noted. While Robinson reportedly lacks political affiliations, his parents are registered Republicans and gun enthusiasts.
Despite her inability to pinpoint blame, Kelly maintained that Kirk’s murder was still attributable to “the left.”
“What’s really annoying right now is, online you’ve got the left, the leftist mob, saying he was a white MAGA Republican, Christian gun lover. Go f--- yourselves,” she exclaimed, referencing the “fascist” inscription on one of the bullets.
“The whole fascist reference is obviously in connection with Charlie’s support of Trump,” she added. “The left is the one that’s been pushing the narrative that [Trump] is a fascist at every turn.”
