Giants End Losing Streak with Dominant Win Over Braves

Jul 23 2025

Rafael Devers made a seamless transition to first base, recording two hits and an RBI as the San Francisco Giants triumphed 9-0 against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night, effectively ending a six-game losing streak.

Devers, who joined the Giants from Boston in June, faced challenges with the Red Sox management after signing a 10-year, $313.5 million contract in 2023. Following the acquisition of Gold Glove third baseman Alex Bregman, he was asked to shift to designated hitter—a request he initially resisted. When Boston's first baseman Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury, Devers declined to take on that role.

On the mound, Landen Roupp (7-6) delivered a stellar performance, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out six over five scoreless innings. The Giants have now secured victories in five of Roupp's last six starts.

In the second inning, Casey Schmitt ignited the scoring with a solo home run off Davis Daniel (0-1), contributing to a four-run frame. Devers doubled to start the fifth inning and later scored on Willy Adames' single, extending the lead to 5-0.

Devers capped his night with an RBI single before Wilmer Flores launched a three-run homer in the seventh inning.

For the Braves, Matt Olson recorded three hits while Michael Harris II added two. The Giants' pitching staff combined for an impressive 14 strikeouts, with Sean Hjelle and Joey Lucchesi each contributing an inning before Carson Seymour closed out the game.

In the second inning, Adames drew a leadoff walk, followed by an RBI triple from Chapman. Flores then added a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 4-0 after Schmitt's homer and Bailey's double.

Giants manager Bob Melvin reached a milestone with his 1,650th career win, tying him with Mike Scioscia for 20th place on MLB's all-time list. Buck Showalter currently holds 19th place with 1,726 wins.

Looking ahead, San Francisco's right-hander Justin Verlander (0-8, 4.99 ERA) is set to face Atlanta's Spencer Strider (4-7, 3.59) on Wednesday.
