Giants Option Hayden Birdsong to Triple-A Sacramento
The San Francisco Giants have sent pitcher Hayden Birdsong to Triple-A Sacramento after a dismal performance against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night, where the right-hander failed to record an out in a 9-5 defeat.
In that outing, Birdsong (4-4) struggled significantly, issuing four walks, hitting a batter, and allowing five runs while throwing only six strikes out of 25 pitches. This marked a low point in his career, as it was the first time in 37 appearances that he did not retire a single batter.
Birdsong's recent struggles are evident; he has accumulated 17 walks over his last 13 innings pitched. His current ERA stands at 4.80, but it has ballooned to 8.13 over his last seven starts, raising concerns about his effectiveness on the mound.

In addition to Birdsong's demotion, the Giants also optioned right-hander Tristan Beck to Sacramento. Beck had a solid outing on Monday, pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings, which leaves him with an ERA of 5.68. The team announced these roster moves on Tuesday, recalling right-handers Carson Seymour and Sean Hjelle from Triple-A to bolster their pitching staff.
